Meet the Team

We tried to offer as much information here

A NOTE BEFORE YOU READ FURTHER

Before going into details, it feels important to say this clearly and honestly:

This Yoga Teacher Training is not designed for everyone.

Over the years, as yoga has grown in popularity, it has become clear that people approach yoga with very different intentions. Some are looking for comfort, some for certification, some for inspiration, some for discipline, and some for genuine transformation.

At Bala Yoga School, we have learned—through experience—that just as students choose a training, a training must also choose its students, so that the integrity of the practice, the space, and the lineage is protected.

This course does not promise quick transformation, instant confidence, or a “feel-good” retreat experience. It is rooted in sādhanā—steady practice, repetition, humility, and sincere effort.

If reading this feels grounding rather than intimidating, if discipline feels like a doorway rather than a burden, then please continue reading.

INTRODUCTION – WHAT “BALA” MEANS HERE

Bala is a Tamil word often translated as youth.

In yoga, however, youth is not about age—it is about quality.

Here, youth means:

  • Curiosity instead of certainty

  • Vitality instead of rigidity

  • A willingness to learn and unlearn

  • A sincere interest in growth rather than performance

Yoga, as we approach it here, is not something you do for an hour. It is something you learn to live—in how you move, breathe, eat, speak, rest, relate, and teach.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

This is a 22-day, 200-hour Yoga Alliance–accredited Teacher Training, offered in a quiet village and forest-edge environment in North Bali.

  • Certification: RYT® 200 (Yoga Alliance)

  • Styles: Hatha & Vinyasa

  • Language: English

  • Batch size: Minimum 5 | Maximum 20

PRACTICE LINEAGE & ASANA APPROACH

This training draws primarily from Classical Yoga, with the āsana practice rooted in Hatha and Vinyasa traditions. These two approaches form the backbone of the physical curriculum and are taught not as separate styles, but as complementary expressions of the same yogic intelligence.

  • Hatha Yoga provides the foundation: stability, precision, breath awareness, and the capacity to remain present within form.

  • Vinyasa Yoga introduces continuity, rhythm, and intelligent sequencing.

Together, they support strength, mobility, clarity, and sustainability in practice.

Alongside this core structure, the training also offers guided exposure to additional approaches—not to create stylistic confusion, but to broaden understanding and adaptability as both practitioner and teacher.

These include:

  • Introduction to Yin Yoga—exploring stillness, longer holds, and connective tissue awareness

  • Yoga with props—using blocks, straps, bolsters, and walls to support alignment, accessibility, and injury prevention

  • Alignment and hands-on adjustments—taught with clarity, consent, and respect for individual bodies

  • Advanced āsana exploration—offered progressively, with emphasis on preparation, integrity, and self-responsibility

  • Partner yoga practices—to develop trust, communication, and sensitivity

  • Weekly kīrtan—cultivating devotion, voice, rhythm, and collective resonance

These elements are introduced as part of a coherent learning arc, not as a buffet of techniques. The emphasis remains on understanding why and when to use a particular approach, rather than collecting styles.

The aim is not to create “multi-style teachers,” but to support practitioners who are grounded, adaptable, and thoughtful—capable of responding intelligently to different bodies, contexts, and stages of practice, while remaining anchored in the roots of yoga.

WHAT MAKES THIS TRAINING DISTINCT

  • A 24-hour yogic lifestyle, not just scheduled classes

  • Daily sādhanā: āsana, prāṇāyāma, and meditation

  • Hatha and Vinyasa taught as complementary, not conflicting, approaches

  • Functional movement to support strength, mobility, and longevity

  • Philosophy taught as something to live, not memorise

  • Small groups allowing real dialogue and personal guidance

  • A learning environment that values sincerity over performance

This training is not about becoming “advanced” in poses.
It is about becoming steady, clear, and responsible—in practice and in life.

MEET THE TEACHERS

Balaganesh Sivaprakasam (Bala)

Balaganesh Sivaprakasam is the founder of Bala Yoga School and has been practising and teaching yoga for over a decade. His work is rooted in Classical Yoga, drawing from the Yoga Sūtras of Patañjali, Sri Aurobindo’s Integral Yoga, and Saiva Siddhāntam, with lived experience in both Indian and international learning environments.

Bala’s teaching emphasises sustainable practice, ethical responsibility, and yoga as a way of living, not merely a physical discipline. His approach integrates Hatha and Vinyasa āsana, prāṇāyāma, meditation, philosophy, and functional movement, with a strong focus on clarity, humility, and long-term well-being.

He is known for creating learning spaces that are disciplined yet humane, where depth and seriousness coexist with warmth, humour, and genuine human connection.

Cora

Cora is an experienced yoga teacher with a calm, attentive, and deeply embodied teaching style. Her work focuses on alignment, mindful movement, breath awareness, and intelligent sequencing, supporting students to build stability and confidence without force or strain.

She brings particular sensitivity to individual bodies, nervous systems, and learning rhythms, making her guidance accessible while remaining precise. Cora’s presence in the training supports integration, clarity, and emotional steadiness, especially during longer immersions.

Her teaching complements the traditional framework of the course by grounding practice in awareness, compassion, and practical applicability.

Yogeesh

Yogeesh brings a strong foundation in traditional practice, discipline, and experiential learning. His teaching supports students in developing steadiness, focus, and respect for repetition and process.

With an emphasis on physical intelligence, breath, and consistency, Yogeesh helps students cultivate strength and clarity while remaining attentive to alignment and safety. His presence in the April–May batch offers a supportive and structured learning environment, particularly for students building confidence in daily sādhanā.

THE LOCATION – WHY NORTH BALI

The training takes place in Pemuteran, a village in North Bali near West Bali National Park.

This area is:

  • Quiet and non-touristic

  • Closely connected to village life

  • Surrounded by forest, hills, and open land

  • Approximately 1 km from the sea

Daily life here unfolds slowly—along footpaths, temples, rice fields, and family compounds.

This is not a destination designed to entertain.
It is a place that invites presence, observation, and attunement.

If you are looking for nightlife, cafés, shopping streets, or constant stimulation, this location may feel restrictive.
If you are looking for space to listen inwardly, it becomes a strong support.

LIVING & ACCOMMODATION – PART OF THE PRACTICE

Accommodation is not treated as a separate “hotel experience.”
It is considered an extension of the yogic lifestyle.

You will be staying in:

  • Traditional wooden heritage bungalows

  • Built from reclaimed Javanese wood

  • Naturally ventilated (no air-conditioning)

  • Surrounded by trees, animals, insects, and natural sounds

You can expect:

  • Birds at dawn

  • Insects, frogs, geckos, and monkeys in the area

  • Wind, rain, and village sounds

  • Sound travelling naturally through wooden structures

This is not a flaw.
It is part of learning to live with nature rather than trying to control it.

If you are highly sensitive to noise, insects, or unpredictability—or if these elements create stress—this environment may not support you, and choosing another training would be wiser.

LIVING CLOSE TO NATURE – ANIMALS, INSECTS & COMFORT NOTES

The training takes place in a forest-edge, village environment, not in a sealed resort or city hotel. Living close to nature is an intentional part of the yogic lifestyle we are inviting you into.

This means that animals, insects, and natural sounds are present—as they are in most rural and tropical environments.

What You May Encounter

  • Birds & bats  especially in the early mornings

  • Geckos on walls and ceilings (harmless and helpful for insects)

  • Insects, including ants, butterflies, moths, and occasional mosquitoes

  • Frogs during evenings or after rain

  • Monkeys in the wider area (not inside rooms)

  • Natural sounds such as wind, rain, forest life, and village activity

These are not signs of poor conditions, but part of living in a living ecosystem rather than an insulated structure.

Mosquitoes & Nets

  • Mosquito nets are provided on the beds

  • Rooms are cleaned regularly

  • We recommend using repellent in the evenings, especially during the rainy season

Mosquito presence varies by season and weather, and with simple precautions, most participants remain comfortable.

How to Make Your Stay More Comfortable

To support your comfort in a nature-based setting, we strongly recommend bringing:

  • Insect repellent (spray, cream, or natural alternatives)

  • Lightweight long-sleeve tops and pants for evenings

  • Comfortable walking footwear

  • Socks (useful in the evenings and early mornings)

  • A small flashlight or headlamp

  • Personal remedies if you are sensitive (eucalyptus oil, allergy tablets, soothing balms, etc.)

  • Reusable water bottle

  • Earplugs (for those sensitive to sound while sleeping)

These small preparations make a significant difference in your experience.

A Gentle but Important Clarification

If insects, animals, natural sounds, or environmental unpredictability cause strong discomfort or anxiety, this setting may not be supportive for you.

We share this not to discourage, but to ensure clarity and alignment, so that everyone present can settle, practise, and live together harmoniously.
